The Kuwaiti army announced, today, Thursday, the formation of a joint technical team with the American side to investigate the circumstances of an accident that resulted in the death of two Kuwaiti soldiers and the injury of others during a joint training on Wednesday.
The Kuwaiti army said in a statement published by Reuters: “A joint technical team from the Kuwaiti and American sides has been assigned to investigate the circumstances and causes of the accident that occurred yesterday evening during the joint bilateral exercise Desert Observer 4.”
The statement quoted Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Sabah as saying during his visit to the accident site in the Adiri area on Thursday morning, “This cooperation reflects the strategic partnership between the two sides, and the joint keenness to apply the highest standards of security and safety in exercises and operational training.”
The Kuwaiti Chief of Staff said the accident occurred during a night shooting exercise with live ammunition on Wednesday evening.
A military funeral is scheduled to be held for Kuwaiti soldiers, First Sergeant Ahmed Farhan Harat Mahdi and Assistant Sergeant Dhahi Saleh Al-Shammari, who are members of the land force, today at the Martyrs’ Cemetery in Sulaibikhat Cemetery.
For its part, the Ministry of Health said that the injured underwent urgent surgical procedures, and left the operations “in stable health condition,” noting that they are still receiving medical care.
