Moscow - Saba:
Russia has submitted an amendment to the US draft resolution in the UN General Assembly on Ukraine, calling for "eliminating the root causes" of the conflict, according to the Russian Sputnik news agency.
The United States had initially proposed wording the draft resolution as follows: "Calls for a speedy end to the conflict and also calls for the establishment of a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia."
Russia proposed an amendment to the first paragraph: after the phrase "calls for a speedy end to the conflict," the phrase "including the elimination of its root causes" would be inserted.
Earlier, the United States, which refused to participate in drafting the anti-Russian draft resolution in the UN General Assembly on Ukraine, proposed its own neutral draft resolution. In its statement, Washington avoids using language related to the alleged "Russian invasion" of Ukraine, and calls the conflict "Russian-Ukrainian."
After the United States refused to participate in the drafting of an anti-Russian resolution drafted by Britain, France, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Poland and the Baltic states, the American delegation proposed its own neutral draft resolution.
The American mission indicated in the draft resolution that Washington deplores the loss of life during the "Russian-Ukrainian conflict".
On February 16, Bloomberg quoted sources as saying that the US presidential administration plans to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine by April 20.
Trump confirmed that the United States is engaged in "successful negotiations" with Russia to end the conflict in Ukraine, accusing Volodymyr Zelensky of causing the destruction of his country, and accusing his predecessor Joe Biden and Europe of rejecting peace.
