Norwegian Casper Ruud and American Tommy Paul have secured spots in the round of 16 at the ongoing Acapulco Tennis Open.
Ruud triumphed over Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech with a 6-4, 6-3 victory in a match that lasted one hour and 42 minutes. Meanwhile, third-seeded Paul cruised past Canadian Gabriel Diallo, winning 6-2, 6-2, to join the round of 16.
Paul will face fellow American Marcos Giron, who overcame Australian Adam Walton 7-6, 6-2. Another American, Ben Shelton, also advanced after defeating Italy's Flavio Cobolli 7-6, 7-6. Shelton will now meet Belgian David Goffin, who easily defeated Australian Rinke Hijikata 6-2, 6-3.
Czech Tomas Machak rounded out the qualifiers, edging past compatriot Jakub Mencsik 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Machak will next face German Daniel Altmaier, who battled back to beat Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The tournament continues to heat up as top players look to claim the prestigious Acapulco title.
