Brussels - Saba:
The European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaya Kallas, reiterated her support for Ukraine today, Saturday, despite the quarrel that took place between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky at the White House yesterday, Friday.
She said, according to the Associated Press: "We will strengthen our support for Ukraine so that it can continue to fight the aggressor. Today, it has become clear that the free world needs a new leader. It is up to us Europeans to respond to this challenge."
Trump accused Zelensky of recklessly endangering global security by refusing to negotiate peace with Russia, and warned that he is "gambling with the outbreak of a third world war and the lives of millions." He stressed Ukraine's weak position in the war, considering that Zelensky has no "leverage cards" to dictate how Washington should interact with Moscow.
Trump stressed that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to negotiate and warned Ukraine to sit down to negotiations with Russia and achieve peace, or the United States will withdraw its support and leave Ukraine "to fight the war" alone.
