Moscow - Saba:
The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Monday that the crews of the Russian Su-34 fighter jets of its space forces carried out an air strike with FAB-1500 and FAB-500 (gliding) bombs on the deployment points of the Ukrainian armed forces in Gulyai-Polye in the occupied parts of the Russian Zaporozhye region.
Sputnik Agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement: "The Russian Defense Ministry published footage of the objective control of an air strike carried out by the crews of the Su-34 fighter-bombers of the Russian Space Forces on the deployment and concentration points of the Ukrainian armed forces units in the village of Gulyai-Polye."
The statement continued: "During the combat flight, FAB-1500 and FAB-500 air bombs were used, equipped with universal units for guidance and correction of coordinates."
Russia has a huge arsenal of air-launched bombs that can be launched from the air against ground targets, whether in open locations or even under concrete fortifications.
During the Russian special military operation, Russia used glide bombs, which the Ukrainian army and its NATO allies do not have defensive means to intercept efficiently, according to a report published by an American magazine.
The term Russian glide bombs refers to conventional bombs that Moscow has developed to transform from so-called "dumb bombs" to "smart bombs" that can guide themselves by sliding towards the target in unstable paths, unlike conventional bombs, which follow fixed inertial paths and have low accuracy.
