Authorities in the United States of America declared a state of emergency following the sweeping of huge fires in the states of North and South Carolina.
The Associated Press reported today, Monday, that firefighting teams are working to extinguish the huge fires sweeping through both North and South Carolina.
In the Carolina Forest area west of Myrtle Beach in Horry County, one of the fires has spread to cover 1,200 acres.
Firefighting teams are facing more than 170 fires in the area, including a huge fire near Myrtle Beach.
While firefighters battled to contain the flames approaching homes, Horry County authorities confirmed that there were no injuries or deaths, and no damage to buildings.
Later, authorities announced that residents who had been evacuated earlier would be allowed to return to their homes.
For his part, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency to support firefighting efforts and ensure the necessary resources are available to emergency crews throughout the state.
