London - Saba:
A recent study has revealed that fasting for long periods leads to major molecular changes in the body, highlighting health benefits beyond just weight loss.
Researchers from the Precision Healthcare Research Institute at Queen Mary University of London conducted a study to explore the molecular mechanisms behind these benefits.
Twelve healthy volunteers who fasted for seven days were followed, where it was observed that the body switched from using glucose to stored fat after the first days of fasting. Significant changes were also observed in protein levels in all major organs, reflecting the body's effective response to calorie deprivation.
Dr. Claudia Langenberg, Director of the Institute, said: "We can now see what happens at the molecular level during fasting, which proves its health benefits, especially after three days of complete fasting." Dr. Mike Petzner, Head of Health Data, added: "Providing these results will help develop alternative treatments that patients can follow."
