Study reveals link between larger animals, higher cancer rates
[Tue, 04 Mar 2025 19:29:35 +0300]

London - Saba:
A new study, published in the journal "PNAS", revealed that larger animals such as giraffes and snakes are more susceptible to cancer than smaller animals such as bats and frogs.

This came after years of research that failed to prove the relationship between animal size and higher cancer rates, which was discovered using a different statistical approach.

The researchers, led by computational biologist George Butler, discovered a link between the large size of animals and the increased likelihood of them developing cancer, which was expected due to the increased number of cells that may mutate and lead to cancer. However, it turned out that some animals, such as elephants, have developed advanced biological mechanisms that prevent the development of cancer despite their large size.

This study provides new insights that may help in developing cancer treatments, by understanding the natural defense mechanisms that some animals use against the disease.
