Real Madrid beat Rayo Vallecano 2-1 in the 27th round of the Spanish league football held at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Sunday.
Real Madrid took the lead first in the 30th minute through French striker Kylian Mbappe, then Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr. added a second goal in the 34th minute.
Vallecano's only goal came in the 45th minute through Pedro Diaz, who hit a powerful ball that hit the crossbar and then crossed the goal line before being cleared by Real goalkeeper Lunin. Still the referee awarded the goal after using VAR.
With this victory, Real Madrid took their tally to 57 points to climb to second place in LaLiga, benefiting from Atletico Madrid's 2-1 loss (56 points) to Getafe. Real Madrid are only behind leaders Barcelona on goal difference, whose match against Osasuna was postponed due to the death of the Catalan team's doctor. Rayo Vallecano are stuck on 33 points in 12th place.
