Czech Petra Kvitova has been declared a Miami Open champion after losing in the first round to American Wafa Kenin.
Kenin defeated Kvitova, the 2023 champion, in straight sets (6-4, 7-5), to set up a second-round clash with her compatriot Coco Gauff, the world's third-ranked player.
Norwegian Magda Linette also defeated Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets (7-6, 6-2), to set up a second-round clash with another Russian, Ekaterina Alexandrova.
