Antalya - Saba:
UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and Humanitarian Coordinator for Gaza Sigrid Kaag has revealed a dire humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, stating that over 60,000 children under the age of five are currently suffering from malnutrition.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency on the sidelines of Antalya Diplomatic Forum, Kaag highlighted the severe restrictions on aid entering Gaza since the latter half of March, a stark contrast to the unimpeded flow of humanitarian assistance during a previous ceasefire agreement.
She further emphasized the challenges faced by humanitarian workers, including a shortage of essential equipment and the depletion of fuel needed to operate hospitals, which has significantly disrupted the distribution of aid. "We know that more than 60,000 children in Gaza under the age of five are suffering from malnutrition. Each number in these statistics represents a person, a life, and a struggle to survive," Kaag stated.
The UN official stressed that international law obligates Israel to allow the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and underscored the urgent necessity for this aid to be delivered without delay. She also noted the perilous conditions under which humanitarian workers, the majority of whom are Palestinian civilians, are operating due to Israeli attacks in Gaza.
