Sana'a – SABA:
The National Committee for Food Safety convened today under the chairmanship of Sam Al-Basheeri, Director General of the Yemeni Authority for Standards, Metrology, and Quality Control, to discuss recent international developments concerning the addition of titanium dioxide to food products.
During the meeting, the committee examined the challenges associated with adding titanium dioxide—commonly used as a whitening agent—to food items, as well as the proposals regarding its usage and its potential impacts on food products.
Al-Basheeri emphasized the importance of activating the committee’s work in line with the decisions made during the previous meeting. He noted that the challenges are significant and the responsibilities have multiplied, requiring intensified efforts by committee members and the active involvement of the represented bodies to confront these issues and safeguard consumer health and safety.
