Washington - Saba:
The U.S. Department of Defense announced it will send additional "defensive weapons" to Ukraine under the direction of President Donald Trump, who emphasized the shipments are primarily defensive in nature.
According to a statement on the Pentagon’s website, spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed that, at Trump’s direction, the department is supplying Ukraine with more defensive arms to help its people defend themselves, while continuing efforts toward lasting peace and an end to the violence.
The statement also noted that Trump had previously pledged to send more weapons to Ukraine, focusing mainly on defensive equipment.
This comes shortly after a July 2 report by The New York Times stated that the U.S. would pause shipments of several key weapon systems to Ukraine, including Patriot missile interceptors, GMLRS precision-guided munitions, Hellfire missiles, Stinger systems, and others.
