Lazaryny: Gaza is dying, ceasefire must be reached now

New York - Saba:

Philippe Lazaryny, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), confirmed that Gaza is dying, and a ceasefire must be reached now.

In a message published by the agency on Monday, Lazaryny said that more than 1,500 medical workers and more than 600 starving people were killed in Gaza while desperately trying to obtain food aid, noting that it was a stark choice between two deaths.

The agency called for a "ceasefire now" in the Gaza Strip, where Israel has been committing genocide since October 7, 2023.

UNRWA stated in a series of posts on its X account on Monday that "the blockade on Gaza," which prevents aid from reaching the territory, must be lifted.

It highlighted the humanitarian catastrophe facing Palestinians in Gaza, saying: "Time is running out for people in Gaza. Food is running out for people in Gaza. Medicine is running out for people in Gaza. "Safe places are running out for people in Gaza."

UNRWA announced that thousands of trucks loaded with aid are waiting for Gaza, and that there is enough food for the entire population of Gaza.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop it.
