US President Donald Trump announced that the two nuclear submarines he ordered deployed on Friday have arrived in "appropriate areas" near Russia, in response to remarks by Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev regarding nuclear weapons.
He said in press statements on Sunday that the submarines had arrived in the area (near Russia) and were "now in appropriate areas."
Trump had ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines in appropriate areas near Russia on Friday, in response to Medvedev, the former Russian president.
On Monday, Medvedev launched a scathing attack on Trump after the latter gave Moscow an ultimatum to reach a ceasefire with Ukraine.
Medvedev warned that Washington's policies "risk igniting a wider conflict between Russia and the United States."
He wrote on Twitter: "Trump must remember that every new ultimatum is a threat and a step toward war, not between Russia and Ukraine, but between Russia and the United States," and he reminded of his country's nuclear capabilities. The Russian official's statements came after Trump announced that his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, had "let him down" regarding a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine. He indicated that he would reduce the 50-day deadline he had given Moscow on July 14.
He added that he intended to set a new deadline for Russia, ranging from 10 to 12 days, starting July 28, to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine.
