Beirut – Saba:
Human Rights Watch said on Wednesday that “Israeli forces appear to have committed war crimes and endangered students’ access to education in Lebanon.”
In a report published on its X platform, the organization stated that Israeli forces completely destroyed several villages along Lebanon’s southern border, and many of the remaining schools were vandalized.
Ramzi Kaiss, Lebanon researcher at Human Rights Watch, said:
“Israeli forces looted at least two schools.”
He added: “By looting schools, Israeli forces appear to have committed war crimes and jeopardized students’ education in Lebanon.”
The organization pointed out that the destruction or severe damage to schools can have devastating effects on children, who are often forced to travel long distances—sometimes through unsafe environments—to access education, frequently in overcrowded schools.
It warned that some students may not be able to continue their education due to the lack of available facilities, difficulties and costs related to transportation, insecurity, psychological trauma, and other factors.
