SANAA, Sep. 2 (Saba) - A consultative meeting on health was held on Tuesday in the Capital Sanaa chaired by Minister of Health and Population Dr. Taha al-Mutawakel.
The three-day meeting will discuss the health situation in Yemen and mechanisms for improving health services in light of the withdrawal of international organizations supporting the health sector.
The minister pointed out that the meeting aims to discuss the conditions of hospitals in light of the deliberate withdrawal of international organizations from providing support to the health sector, coinciding with the aggression's ban on the entry of oil ships into the port of Hodeidah.
He noted that this step comes against the backdrop of the continued aggression to detain oil vessels to deepen the suffering of the Yemeni people as international organizations withdraw from supporting Yemen's health sector.
The minister of health stressed the need for concerted efforts by all to promote the health sector and improve medical and health services.
He urged agencies' heads and hospitals' directors to find solutions and alternative solutions to support organizations in a way that contributes to improving health services in hospitals and bodies, strengthening infrastructure, and qualifying medical and health staff.
The minister said that the ministry is working to study the options available for self-reliance so as to find alternatives to international organizations supporting the health sector or else to ensure the improvement of the health situation in Yemen.
He added, "The organizations supporting the health sector have already stopped the incentives for doctors and health staff working in hospitals," stressing that the decision to withdraw organizations from supporting the health sector is fundamentally political.
Dr. al-Mutawakel held international organizations fully responsible for the deterioration of the health situation and the increase in deaths, especially among patients with chronic diseases, as a result of the continued aggression and blockade and the prevention of entry of oil derivatives.
He called on human rights organizations around the world to raise their voice loudly over the injustice and suffering of the Yemeni people as a result of the continuing aggression and siege.
