Syria: US decision to temporarily freeze sanctions is "misleading & false"
[Fri, 10 Feb 2023 22:44:00 +0300]

DAMASCUS February 10. 2023 (Saba) - The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the US decision to freeze sanctions on Damascus temporarily and partially as "misleading, and aims to give a false humanitarian impression."

The Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today, Friday, "In light of the widespread international demands to lift the siege on Syria, especially after the humanitarian catastrophe that befell the country as a result of the devastating earthquake, the US administration issued a new misleading decision stipulating a partial and temporary freeze of some of the unilateral and deadly coercive measures it imposes on the people." Syrian".

In the statement reported by the Syrian News Agency, she emphasized that this decision is nothing but a duplicate of previous sham decisions aimed at giving a false humanitarian impression, as it stipulated alleged exceptions for humanitarian purposes, and the facts proved their falsity. Indeed, the US administration has recently tightened these measures by targeting a number of public hospitals. And private and prevented even from maintaining medical equipment that serves hundreds of thousands of Syrian patients.

The ministry indicated that the coercive measures and American policies prevented the Syrian people from enjoying their looted natural wealth, and limited the ability of state institutions to improve the living conditions, achieve development goals, and provide basic services.

The statement pointed out that the new US Treasury decision stresses Washington's adherence to its illegal sanctions, and therefore the US administration is unable to deceive the Syrians and the world by trying to beautify its image and evade its responsibility for obstructing efforts to rescue and support those affected by the earthquake, and to provide the basic needs of the afflicted Syrian people.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry renewed Syria's demand for the United States to end the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people immediately, without hesitation, without conditions or exceptions, and to desist from its hostile practices and violations of international law and the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter.

And I appealed to all countries and international organizations that stood by the Syrian people in their plight as a result of the devastating earthquake, and in their 12-year war on terrorism, to demand the unconditional lifting of the inhuman, immoral and illegal blockade imposed on the Syrian people.
