Mohamed Salah scored Liverpool's only goal in the 63rd minute from a penalty kick approved by the video assistant referee technology, after Girona player Donny van de Beek obstructed Colombian Luis Diaz, Liverpool winger.
With this victory, Liverpool raised its score to 18 points at the top of the league stage, achieving a full mark from winning six matches, while Girona's score froze at three points in 30th place.
In another match held at the same time and within the same round of the league stage, Croatian Dinamo Zagreb tied with its guest, Scottish Celtic, without goals.
Celtic raised its score to nine points in seventeenth place temporarily, while Dinamo Zagreb's score became eight points in 21st place temporarily.
