Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned, on Thursday, any occupation of Syrian lands by the Zionist enemy army, following the recent developments in Syria.
According to Russian media, this came during the annual press conference in which he answers questions.
Putin told reporters and citizens that he hopes that the Zionist enemy forces will leave these territories at some point, "but now we see that they are deploying more forces in Syria and do not seem to have any intention of withdrawing, but rather of expanding their penetration and annexing territories, and this complicates the situation even more.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Putin said: "The Palestinian issue can only be resolved by eliminating its root causes and a two-state solution."
During the press conference, Putin indicated for the first time in his voice that the ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is now residing in Russia after receiving political asylum from him. Putin said that he has not met with Assad yet, but added that he intends to do so later.
In the question-and-answer session, Putin also referred to the inauguration of Donald Trump as President of the United States on January 20, and when asked what he intends to propose to Trump, he replied: "I do not know when we will meet." Putin said that, contrary to reports, he and Trump have not spoken for more than four years.
