Liverpool beat its host West Ham United 5-0 at the London Stadium late on Sunday, widening the gap at the top of the English Premier League to eight points with Mohamed Salah shining again.
Mohamed Salah scored a goal to raise his tally to 20 goals in all competitions this season and assisted two other goals to outperform Liverpool over its host.
Liverpool had to wait 30 minutes before Luis Diaz opened the scoring.
Salah passed the ball to Cody Gakpo to score his team's second goal, then the Egyptian international doubled the score with a close-range shot to make it 3-0 in the first half, and Trent Alexander-Arnold widened the gap with a deflected shot, then Salah passed a wonderful ball to Diogo Jota to conclude a great day for coach Arne Slot's team.
Liverpool have 45 points from 18 matches, while Nottingham Forest are in second place with 37 points from 19 matches.
In another match, Manchester City regained the winning streak that had been absent from them in the past four stages of the English Premier League by achieving a valuable 2-0 victory over their host Leicester City, in the 19th stage of the competition, at the King Power Stadium.
Brazilian Savinho opened the scoring for Manchester City in the 21st minute, before setting up the second goal, scored by his teammate Erling Haaland in the 74th minute, to end the Norwegian star's goal drought in his last four matches with his club in various competitions.
Haaland raised his scoring tally in the tournament this season to 14 goals, placing him second in the list of top scorers in the English Premier League this season, two goals behind Egyptian Mohamed Salah, the winger of Liverpool (the leader).
Manchester City's tally, which drew two matches and lost two in its last four matches in the tournament, rose to 31 points, temporarily advancing to fifth place until the end of the rest of the stage's matches, noting that this is the second victory achieved by the team of Spanish coach Josep Guardiola in its last 14 matches in all competitions.
Leicester City's tally, which received its 11th loss in the tournament this season compared to three wins and five draws, stopped at 14 points in 18th place temporarily.
