Melbourne - Saba:
Poland's Iga Swiatek, ranked second in the world, qualified for the third round of the Australian Tennis Championship, the first of the four Grand Slam tournaments on Thursday, after a crushing two-set victory over Slovak Rebecca Sramkova 6-0 and 6-2.
The 22-year-old Pole needed only an hour to defeat the world's 49th ranked player, who reached the second round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career.
Swiatek, who has won five Grand Slam titles, said: "I felt very strong today and it was an exciting match.. I am happy that I maintained my focus."
With this win, Swiatek set up a third-round date with British Emma Raducanu (61), who defeated her American friend Amanda Anisimova (35) 6-3 and 7-5 in one hour and 54 minutes.
Tunisian Ons Jabeur defeated Colombian Maria Camila Osorio 7-5 and 6-3.
The 30-year-old Tunisian, who suffered from an asthma attack, said she had difficulty breathing and almost withdrew from the match, knowing that she is seeking to return to the top after a shoulder injury last year that threatened her career.
Jaber will face a tough match in the third round against American Emma Navarro, the eighth, who struggled to defeat Chinese Wang Xiu, ranked 108, with a score of 6-3, 3-6 and 6-4.
