Geneva - Saba:
The Israeli army continues to commit the crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip despite the declaration of a ceasefire on January 19, 2025, by imposing catastrophic living conditions on the Palestinians there and depriving them of the basic necessities necessary for survival, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor said on Friday.
The Monitor explained in a press release that the Zionist entity was not satisfied with the widespread killing and massive destruction it inflicted on the Gaza Strip over more than 15 months, but is now continuing to use policies that effectively lead to the death of the population, by continuing the policy of gradual and slow killing, and imposing a comprehensive illegal blockade that obstructs the flow of humanitarian aid and basic materials, and prevents the repair of vital infrastructure and the provision of basic services necessary for the survival of the population.
The watchdog said Israel is fully aware of the devastating impact of its illegal measures imposed on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and the dire and long-term consequences they entail, especially on marginalized groups and those with difficult health conditions. However, these measures continue to be implemented without any regression, in the absence of any effective international pressure to stop its ongoing crimes against the Palestinians.
The Monitor warned that direct killings of Palestinians are still ongoing. Despite the cessation of large-scale mass killings in the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire, the Zionist occupation forces continue to commit these crimes against Palestinian citizens under various pretexts, all of which lack any legal justification.
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor documented the martyrdom of at least 110 Palestinians since the ceasefire, at a rate of about six citizens per day, distributed between new deaths or those wounded due to their serious injuries, after "Israel" deprived them of their right to travel abroad to receive treatment. During this period, 901 Palestinians were injured, at a rate of 47 injuries per day.
It also indicated that work continues in the Strip to recover the bodies of the dead, with 571 martyrs recovered, at a rate of 30 per day so far; While information confirms the presence of thousands of missing persons under the rubble, and it is still difficult to retrieve them due to Israel's procrastination in bringing in the necessary equipment, as the recovery operations are currently being carried out with manual tools or simple equipment that is not suitable for dealing with thousands of tons of rubble.
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor warned that thousands of patients and injured people in the Gaza Strip are threatened with death due to the continued denial of travel to receive treatment, as only a small number of them have been allowed since the ceasefire.
The Monitor called for urgent international action to stop the crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip with all its actions, and to take effective steps to save the Palestinians from the plans of slow killing and forced displacement, including activating an urgent response to meet the immediate and appropriate needs of the population, including providing adequate temporary housing.
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor also called on the United Nations and the international community to take immediate measures to hold the Zionist entity accountable for its ongoing crimes against the Palestinians, including imposing effective sanctions on it, and stopping all forms of political, financial and military support and cooperation provided to it, including immediately stopping the sale, export and transfer of weapons to it, and purchasing them from it, including export licenses and military aid, and ensuring its accountability and prosecution for its crimes against the Palestinians at all international and national levels, and implementing the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court against the Prime Minister of the Zionist entity and its former Minister of War at the first opportunity and handing them over to international justice.
