Washington - Saba:
An email obtained by Reuters revealed that a U.S. official overseeing the dismantling of the U.S. government's main foreign aid agency suggested gradually cutting aid to Lebanon, which is grappling with a crisis, and to the Rohingya minority, the largest stateless group in the world.
The email was written by Peter Marocco, Acting Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), on February 16.
It provides insight into some of the thoughts behind the U.S. administration's campaign to end aid programs it believes do not benefit the United States.
In the email, Marocco appeared to want the Rohingya and Lebanon to express gratitude for U.S. support, stating that "the United States should receive some form of appreciation or goodwill from the beneficiary populations toward the American people."
