The Russian Ministry of Defense announced today, Saturday, the start of the process of clearing the border areas of the Russian Kursk Oblast of mines after their liberation, noting that Work is underway to simultaneously demine residential homes and vital facilities.
Sputnik quoted the ministry as saying in a statement: "The engineering forces of the Russian Armed Forces have begun carrying out mine clearance operations in the border areas of Kursk Oblast, which were liberated from Kyiv-backed militants. The aim is to rehabilitate socially important facilities and the necessary infrastructure to restore normal life and economic activity in the region after the fierce fighting."
The statement added: "The specificity of the tasks of clearing areas and facilities of explosive devices in the liberated territories is evident in the simultaneous implementation of mine clearance operations on residential homes, adjacent yards, and agricultural land, in addition to vital facilities such as gas pipelines, heating stations, power and communications lines, roads, and bridges."
A unit from the International Mine Action Center of the Russian Military Engineering Academy has been deployed to participate in mine clearance operations in the liberated areas of Kursk Oblast, Russia. Units from the engineering forces of the Russian Armed Forces have also been brought in to carry out these operations.
The ministry also stated that explosives experts in Kursk Oblast have a significant task ahead of them, noting that Kyiv regime forces have used various types of munitions, including munitions from NATO countries.
The ministry's statement read: "The explosives experts are required to carry out extensive tasks, as Kyiv forces' formations used various types of munitions during combat operations, including foreign-made munitions supplied by NATO countries. Engineering units found munitions prohibited by the Geneva Convention, including BFM-1 (Libyanstock) antipersonnel cluster mines, which pose a deadly threat to the civilian population in the liberated areas."
