China has proposed to Japan a joint response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff policies, with Chinese Premier Li Qiang sending a message to Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba regarding the matter.
Beijing invited Tokyo to join forces in countering these policies, though Japan is expected to respond cautiously due to its close alliance with the United States.
This move comes amid rising trade tensions following Trump’s announcement of new tariffs aimed at reducing the trade deficit. While Trump temporarily suspended additional tariffs on trade partners, excluding China, for 90 days, he raised the "reciprocal" tariffs on China to 125%, prompting Beijing to respond with similar measures.
