Hodeidah – Saba:
The leaderships of the offices of the Endowments (Awqaf) and Zakat authorities in Hodeidah governorate conducted a field inspection today of several unleased Waqf (endowment) lands in Al-Zuhra and Al-Luhaya districts.
The visit aimed to assess the lands in preparation for their reclamation and agricultural investment as part of a joint partnership plan between the two entities under the slogan *"Towards Self-Sufficiency."
During the inspection, Abdullah Shaim, Director of the Awqaf Office, and Mohammed Hazza’, Director of the Zakat Office, surveyed several Waqf sites with vast areas. They evaluated their agricultural suitability, including soil quality, water availability, and readiness for reclamation, to establish an accurate database for future planning and implementation stages.
Shaim explained that the inspection aligns with the directives of the Revolution Leader and the Awqaf leadership to activate neglected Waqf lands and transform them into productive agricultural projects that enhance food security and serve the community.
He noted that the inspected lands are reclaimable and hold promising potential, adding that the office is coordinating with the Zakat Authority to develop a joint vision for their investment in a way that serves public interest and achieves developmental returns.
For his part, Hazza’ stated that the inspection marks a fundamental starting point for the Waqf land reclamation plan, aiming to study the on-ground reality, identify technical needs, and prioritize actions before preparing an executive plan for subsequent phases.
He clarified that the first phase of the project will begin in Al-Zuhra and Al-Luhaya districts as a nucleus for expansion into other districts, stressing that reclaiming these lands will contribute to expanding agricultural areas, creating job opportunities, and revitalizing the local economy.
Shaim and Hazza’ appreciated the support of the Awqaf and Zakat leaderships, as well as the local authorities, for enabling the two offices to fulfill their developmental roles in agricultural production and investment.
