The First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, Dmitry Polansky, warned that "for every round of escalation by the West, Russia will provide a decisive and symmetrical response."
The "Russia Today" website quoted Polansky as saying: "We believe that we have the right to use our weapons against military targets belonging to those countries that allow the use of their weapons against our targets."
