Brussels – SABA:
The European Commission vowed on Friday to deliver a "firm and immediate response" to U.S. trade barriers after President Donald Trump announced potential tariffs that could impact both allies and competitors.
In an official statement, the Commission described Trump’s proposed reciprocal tariff policy as "a step in the wrong direction," warning that it increases economic uncertainty and negatively affects the efficiency of global markets.
The Commission, which oversees trade policy for the 27-member European Union, emphasized that the bloc would take immediate action against any unjustified barriers to free and fair trade.
On Thursday, President Trump pledged to impose reciprocal tariffs to rebalance trade relations between the U.S. and the rest of the world, though he did not specify when the measures would take effect.
