The draw for the last 16 of the Champions League was held today in Nyon, Switzerland, at the headquarters of the European Football Association, and witnessed an exciting summit between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, in addition to a pivotal Spanish clash between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
Also scheduled are German clashes between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, English-Belgian between Aston Villa and Club Brugge, French-German clashes between Lille and Borussia Dortmund, English-Dutch between Arsenal and PSV Eindhoven, Italian-Dutch between Inter Milan and Feyenoord, in addition to a clash between Barcelona and Benfica.
The first leg matches will be played at specific venues in the first round on March 4-5, followed by the return leg on March 11-12, then the quarter-finals continue in April with the first two-leg matches, followed by the semi-final first leg on April 29-30 and the return leg on May 6-7, with the final match culminating in a match to be played on May 31 in Munich.
Eight teams qualified directly from the group stage after finishing top, including Liverpool, Barcelona, Lille, Aston Villa, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Inter Milan and Arsenal, while the other eight teams took their places after successful play-off matches, including Club Brugge, Feyenoord, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, PSV Eindhoven and Paris Saint-Germain.
