The United States intends to deploy more than 600 additional troops to its border with Mexico, a move that coincides with the Trump administration's strengthening of measures to combat illegal immigration.

The U.S. Northern Command said in a statement on Tuesday that approximately 40 of these additional troops are Air Force intelligence analysts, while the remaining 590 are from the Corps of Engineers.

It added that this increase will bring the total number of troops deployed or expected to be deployed to the border with Mexico to approximately 9,600.
