Washington-Saba:
White House spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt confirmed on Wednesday that US President Donald Trump had put Volodymyr Zelensky "in his right place," noting that the United States has a serious intention to achieve peace.
Levitt told Fox News: "There were many skeptics in Washington, but President Trump is a master deal-maker and a skilled negotiator.
He put Zelensky in his right place and told him that the Americans are serious about a peace agreement."
A joint US-Ukrainian statement following a meeting of the two countries' delegations in Saudi Arabia stated, "Ukraine expressed its readiness to accept the US proposal for an immediate, transitional ceasefire for 30 days, which may be extended by mutual agreement between the parties, subject to the Russian Federation's acceptance and simultaneous implementation."
The statement added, "The United States will immediately lift the suspension of intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine."
The statement continued, "Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed to reach a comprehensive agreement as soon as possible to develop Ukraine's critical mineral resources, to expand the Ukrainian economy, offset the cost of US assistance, and ensure Ukraine's long-term security and prosperity."
The statement added that the US and Ukrainian delegations agreed to form negotiating teams and immediately begin talks on a lasting peace.
