A team of paleontologists from the United Kingdom and Morocco discovered the oldest bird-hipped cerapodan dinosaur in the Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco.
They found a fossilized femur bone dating back approximately 168 million years.
This discovery surpasses the previous record and reinforces the hypothesis that cerapodan diversified before the Cretaceous period.
Cerapodan dinosaurs were small, bipedal herbivores, and this discovery represents an important step in the study of the evolution of this dinosaur group.
