Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Samir Bajaala met today with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) representative in Yemen, Enshrah Ahmed.
During the meeting, they discussed ways to rectify the negative decisions of donors to reduce support for projects and activities implemented by UNFPA in Yemen in the field of social protection for women, especially in the areas of rehabilitation, training, economic empowerment and health.
During the meeting, Minister Bajaala expressed hope that organizations working in the humanitarian field in Yemen will be able to find solutions to overcome the issue of reducing support, following the wrong decisions of the supporting countries.
He referred to the responsibilities and agreements signed by UN entities and the projects planned to be implemented with partners to alleviate the human suffering in Yemen caused by the aggression and blockade.
He also referred to UNFPA's services in Yemen, which must continue as they are linked to the lives of many segments of the population in need of support and assistance, especially the care projects for women and newborns.
For her part, the UNFPA representative expressed thanks for the cooperation of the ministry's leadership in implementing activities and facilitating their work, especially in the field of women's and children's health.
She noted that the fund's work in the coming period will be limited to life-saving work. Enshrah expressed her hope that other supporters will be found, that the allocations will return, and that all activities will be restored.
The meeting was attended by the director of the UNFPA field office in Sana'a, Ghamdan Mufreh, and a number of officials from the Ministry of Social Affairs.
