BRUSSEL - SABA: French European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, has resigned from his position, effective immediately, following disagreements with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Breton made the announcement via a letter on the "X" platform, which was subsequently acknowledged by von der Leyen, who expressed her gratitude for Breton’s service.
In response to the vacancy, French President Emmanuel Macron has proposed Stéphane Sejourné as Breton's successor.
Sejourné, who is a former French Foreign Minister, ex-European Parliament member, and past president of the centrist Renew Europe (RENEW) group, is now a candidate for the influential position within the European Commission.
