Doctors Without Borders accuses Israeli authorities of massacres in Gaza

Oman - Saba:

The organization Doctors Without Borders has called for increased pressure on Israeli authorities to halt the "indiscriminate killing of civilians" in Gaza and to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid. During a press conference in Amman on Wednesday,

Inas Abu Khalaf, the organization's media head for the Middle East and North Africa, accused Israel of committing "mass massacres" in the region.

"Israel must immediately cease its indiscriminate attacks on civilians in Gaza and expedite the delivery of aid to alleviate the suffering within the Strip," Abu Khalaf stated, emphasizing the need to open vital border crossings for humanitarian access.

She criticized the "shameful inaction" of the international community, noting that Israel's allies have continued to provide military support and legal cover while children are being killed and civilian areas are being bombarded. "Zionist tanks are firing on shelters in non-engagement zones, and fighter jets are striking humanitarian facilities," she added.

Abu Khalaf highlighted that only 17 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza are partially operational due to the systematic dismantling of the health system by the occupation. "Israel has opened fire on health facilities and medical personnel, resulting in numerous casualties among them. Six of our colleagues were killed while performing their medical duties," she noted.

The organization called for an immediate and sustainable ceasefire, an end to the mass killing of civilians, the destruction of the healthcare system, and the blockade of Gaza.

Isabelle Defourny, president of Doctors Without Borders, criticized the hypocrisy of Israel's allies during a video call. "They vaguely condemn the consequences of the war while continuing to support Israel unconditionally, including through military supplies," she said.

Defourny further remarked on the inconsistency in the international community's response, noting that countries that have condemned atrocities elsewhere, such as the Rohingya in Myanmar and the Yazidis in Iraq, have been reluctant to apply similar language to the situation in Gaza.
