Moscow - Saba:
Russian company Gazprom announced that Russian gas supplies to China in 2024 will exceed the agreed volume under contracts between the two sides.
The Russian news agency "TASS" quoted a statement by the company following a working meeting by its president, Alexei Miller, with Huang Yongzhang, vice president of the China National Oil and Gas Corporation "CNPC" today, Tuesday, saying: "Gazprom is currently working on preparing to increase gas exports via the "Power of Siberia" pipeline in accordance with the agreement between the two companies on bringing the volume of supplies to the highest levels early."
The statement added that the two sides discussed issues of implementing promising projects in the field of gas.
For his part, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak pointed out that Gazprom increased gas supplies to China last year by 1.5 times to 22.7 billion cubic meters of gas, and this year they may reach 30 billion cubic meters.
Gazprom Vice President Vitaly Markelov had previously announced that the Russian company's supplies to China would exceed the volume agreed upon under the contracts by one billion cubic meters during the current year.
It is noteworthy that the Russian Gazprom and the Chinese CNPC companies agreed to bring the volume of supplies via the "Power of Siberia" pipeline to the higher level of 38 billion cubic meters of gas in December instead of January 2025 as previously agreed.
