Gaza – Saba:
The Director General of the Government Media Office in Gaza, Ismail Al-Thawabteh, confirmed that the bombing of Al-Ahli (Al-Maamadani) Hospital—one of the last operational hospitals in northern Gaza housing hundreds of patients and medical staff—constitutes a full-fledged war crime.
In a press statement on Monday, Al-Thawabteh described the attack on Al-Ahli as a "barbaric assault" and proof that the enemy is targeting every component of life and deliberately denying treatment to the wounded, in blatant defiance of the international community.
He warned against the continued systematic targeting of hospitals and the healthcare system by the Zionist enemy, emphasizing that such acts are aimed at dismantling the remaining capabilities of the health sector and stripping the Palestinian people of their most basic rights.
Al-Thawabteh stressed that what is happening in Gaza is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit the targeting of medical facilities. He stated that the Zionist aggression is part of a systematic strategy to subjugate civilians and inflict further suffering on the wounded and sick as part of a comprehensive genocide.
The shutdown of Al-Ahli Hospital, he noted, is a severe blow, adding to the already out-of-service 36+ hospitals and dozens of medical centers that have partially or fully ceased operations amid an unprecedented collapse of the healthcare system in Gaza.
He further explained that the acute shortage of medicine and medical supplies, coupled with power outages and the direct targeting of medical personnel, has made it nearly impossible to deliver even basic healthcare.
Al-Thawabteh declared the health situation in Gaza as catastrophic, warning that the system is on the brink of total collapse due to immense pressure and dwindling resources, endangering the lives of tens of thousands of wounded, chronically ill, and vulnerable patients.
The enemy army committed a horrific massacre on Sunday morning by bombing Al-Ahli Hospital—Gaza City’s last functioning medical facility—reducing it to rubble and forcing thousands of patients and staff to flee under the cover of night following a prior warning of the attack.
The hospital had endured months of bombardment, but the massacre on October 17, 2023, marked a turning point in exposing the Zionist regime’s intentions. On that day, Israeli aircraft bombed the hospital courtyard, killing over 500 Palestinians and severely burning thousands more.
Since October 7, 2023, and with U.S. and European support, the Zionist entity has been perpetrating a genocide in Gaza, leaving over 167,000 Palestinians dead or wounded—most of them women and children—and over 14,000 still missing.
